Rakhi is a hindu festival which celebrates the love and duty between brother and sisters.
The festival is also used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who are relative or biological unrelated.
How to celebrate Raksha bandhan :-
On Rakhi, sisters tie a rakhi(sacred thread) on her brother's wrist. This symbolises the sisters love and prayers for her brother's well being. The festival falls on the full moon day of poornima.
History of RakshaBandhan :-
The king of devil's Bali was a great devotee of lord vishnu. One day Bali approached to lord vishnu for safeguarding his kingdom. Lord vishnu take this task but goddesses Laxmi wanted his husband not to leave his home. She reached to the house of Bali as a brahmin woman and asked for shelter.
On shravan poornima day laxmi ji tied a sacred thread on the wrist of king Bali and reaveled his purpose for being their. Touched by the concern of Laxmiji towards her family, king Bali requested lord vishnu to live with her. From that day we celebrate rakshabandhan.This is the history of rakshabandhan.
